The Rotary Foundation is now accepting applications for the fully-funded 2022 Rotary Peace Fellowship. Up to 130 peace and development leaders are selected globally every year to earn either a master’s degree or a professional development certificate in peace and conflict studies at one of seven Rotary Peace Centers at leading universities around the world. The 2022 Rotary Peace Fellowship application is now available online for eligible applicants. For more information, visit: https://www.rotary.org/en/our-programs/peace-fellowships
The application deadline for this round is May 31, 2021 for our Rotary District. Please apply early to ensure that an individual Rotary club can endorse your application before this date. You should contact your local Rotary Club to inquire about endorsing your application before you submit it. The Rotary Club of Burnaby is able to endorse applications.

Below are some updates on our District 5040's previous Peace Scholar Recipients:
Julia Smith
Still at Simon Fraser University, Julia continues to make us proud. She is leading an international project at the university, “Understanding and mitigating real-time differential gendered effects of the COVID-19 outbreak.” The project will report on how the pandemic is affecting women and men differently, as well as vulnerable groups, providing real-time advice to policymakers here in Canada and globally. There is a comment on this topic she co-authored in the Lancet. She also wrote on this topic and was interviewed recently for an article in the New York Times.
Saad Karim
Saad is between contracts and is currently consulting giving mostly management and operational advice and support to COVID-19 responses in some countries.
Miguel Rozo, 2020 Fellowship RecipientMiguel Rozo was supported and endorsed as a Peace Scholar by Rotary Club of Lions Gate and Rotary Club of Vancouver. He was at a field mission in Colombia last year. Miguel’s latest, exciting news is his admission to the Master of Arts (M.A.) program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill Environment, Ecology and Energy Program (E3P). He will be the first Rotary Peace Fellow to enroll in this program and possibly a minor in Public Policy. COVID-19 has made him think more about the importance of public health and so will consider that in his research which he is refining with his faculty advisor and committee.
