President Jim officially inducted Bhavdip Gill into the club, welcome Bhavdip.
Teresa introduced Linda Bakker, Co-Executive Director of Wildlife Rescue Association. Linda started with a brief history of WRA, started in 1979 at the Nature House (north side of Burnaby Lake) in 1986 they moved to the current sight on the south side of Burnaby Lake. WRA specializes in treatment of birds. Mammals are treated at other locations (Langley). WRA treat about 150 species of birds using 200 volunteers. About 4500 birds are treated per year. WRA are currently modifying a building to be used for bat rehab, which the funds that RCB provided from our Gala dinner will help fund. There are 16 species of bats in BC and there is concern that white nose syndrome is moving into BC from the east. It is a fungus that can desimate the bats.
The staff at WRA are often students that vet technicians, often training to be vets.
