Our long-time member Satwant Ginder was honoured at a celebration with 9 other community leaders at BC Cultural Society's 2021 Canada Senior Day at Vancouver's on October 30, 2021. Satwant was among 10 senior honorees being recognized from diverse communities in BC, including a representative fromn Musqueom Nation and Burnaby's Scadanavian Centre.
On the program, there was a brief bio of Satwant listing some of her achievements.
Satwant Ginder Sangha
Mrs. Satwant Sangha has unselfishly devoted her time and energy to promote diversity, intercultural relations and community volunteerism. She has contributed to the welfare of the Indo community through her service as past Vice President National Indo-Canadian Council, Lifetime Director of Five Rivers Society, Member of India Cultural Centre of Canda and member of the India Mahala Association.
In addition, she has reached out to the mainstream community through her work with the Burnaby Rotary Club and the Canadian Eyesight Global organization in raising funds for humanitarian causes. She went to India five times to support various eye camps which provided cataract removal for the underpriviledged.
Satwant has received many honours over the years, including the Queen Elizabeth Jubilee Medal, Rotary CInternational's Paul Harris Award 8 times and the Khalsa Diwan Society Community Service Award. Her didcation to volunteerism for many years is an example of community building, promoting goodwill and marmony in making Canada a better place in which to live and grow.
Out of the 10 honourees at this 2021 Canada Senior Day event of BC Cultural Diversity Association, Satwant stood out as the only woman among 9 other men.
Satwant was accompanied at this celebration of a few hundreds of people by two of her nephews, her sister and brother-in-law. Chu Wu and his wife Ruby Tsai from the Rotary Club of Burnaby were also invited as Satwant's guest at this event.
