From Interactor to Rotarian and How to Optimize Your Brain Health
Sep. 24, 2021 12:00 p.m.
Dr. Patricia Wu will share her journey from attending RYLA and being an Interactor in Burnaby South Secondary School, to co-founding and serving as Club President of the Rotaract Club of Squamish while she attended Quest University Canada to obtain her Bachelor of Science and Arts Degree. Patricia, at 27, is the youngest member of the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen. She lives in Tsawwassen and practices as a Naturopathic Physician at South Delta Integrative Healthcare Clinic.
About Dr. Patricia Wu from Her Website: https://www.drpatriciawu.com/about The intersection of nature, community, and health has always interested me. I love working with my community and always appreciated opportunities to learn from those with more life experience, like the Rotarians I have had the pleasure of meeting through my parents. While completing naturopathic medical school, my clinical work exposed areas in which our healthcare system let the older population fall through the cracks. This discovery compelled me to shift my original focus on pediatrics to geriatrics. Born and raised in Metro Vancouver, I was fortunate to grow up with active grandparents. Throughout my life, I have been inspired by the vibrancy of the older generation in my community. These experiences have solidified my aspirations to serve the aging population and to help redefine what health means for them. Growing older or “aging” is often seen in a negative light; however, it can be a fulfilling journey. Aging does not need to be debilitating. I believe that maximizing quality of life starts with active listening, compassion, and education. You have a story to share, I want to listen. You have more than one chief concern, I will work through them with you.
Your Pain, Your Fear, My Mission We are in an epidemic of heart disease, diabetes, and dementia. All three are tightly intertwined. The most common fear with losing your memory is losing yourself. My mission is to empower you before it's too late. South Delta Integrative Healthcare: http://www.southdeltaintegrative.com/

How to Do Less in the Crazy World and Still Be Productive
Oct. 22, 2021 12:00 p.m.
The Do Less Project began in 2012, offering and inspiring individuals ways and methods by which to slow down and maybe find more value through creating space in their lives. As a modern world, many of us have a propensity to want to get as much out of life as is possible by doing and having as much as possible. Does this truly offer us "everything" we are desiring in life? Are we happy and fulfilled with the quantity of everything we gather and consume? About Tim... Growing up in a rural small townAlberta and helping my family on their ranch, I learned very early on the value of working hard, and the benefits of "many hands make light work". As I embarked into the career of graphic design, I went on to work in various locations around the world and learned that the world is a very small place. Learning about different cultures and aspects of living, I expanded my knowledge in yoga and meditation and energy healing (Reiki). The practices of Yoga, including being a Certified Yoga Teacher for the last 12 years, helped to balance out the busy-ness of the graphic design world that I had come to know and love. This was the beginning of the understanding for me that doing more in the world was counter-intuitive to creating more space and peace...and being present in the beauty of "what is" in each moment of living.

Oct. 30, 2021 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
A strategic plan review session to cover our strategic plan and dig deeper into our club's priorities and preferences. The location is set to the Third Floor Banquet Room of the South Burnaby Neighbourhood House near Metrotown Mall. The suggestion I got was that physically attending would make the event easier to run. Of course, no worries if people may still have health concerns or other sorts of barriers to attending.
